Summary

The two year MOBITECH project was implemented within the consortium. Co-ordinator is the Educational Association, z.s. Members are 3 VET schools from the South Bohemian Region: Technical Institute, Secondary School, The Centre of Professional Education Sezimovo Ústí; Secondary School Of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, Velešín; and The Milevsko Secondary Vocational School. The foreign partner organisation is the Latvian association ‘Biedrība Eurofortis’, a multicultural NGO which has contacts and close links to VET schools in LV, as well as to businesses and companies. The Riga State Technical School, Riga Technical College, Kandava State Agriculture Technical School and Ogre Technical School, and companies BALTROTORS in Salaspils, Skan-Tooling Sia in Riga, LEAX BALTIX, Amatex SIA, Ferrus SIA, LLU MPS Vecauce and Stokker SIA were involved in the project.

The idea to prepare and implement the project was created thanks to the project co-ordinator’s long-term cooperation with VET schools that are involved in the project. We felt that it was necessary to strengthen and expand the competences of students in technical education, to enable the students to see the field studied from a different perspective. Most students don’t have the opportunity, also with regard to the social relations of their families, to travel abroad and gain experience in their study field. Through this project, we supported the increase and interest of students in technical fields and the publicity of technical disciplines for parents and the public in connection with the year of industry and technical education announced by the Confederation of Industry for the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Education and Youth and Sports for the year 2015. The project objectives were also in line with the long-term Plan for Education and Development of the Educational System in the South Bohemian Region. One of this plan’s objectives for the period up to 2016 was to support international project cooperation and to increase student mobility within EU programmes, to support the reduction of unemployment for VET schools graduates and to increase their applicability on the labour market.

The main objective of the project was to implement the mobility involving the theoretical and practical teaching for 48 students in VET schools in LV, 6 accompanying people took part in the mobility.

The project’s specific objectives and the implemented mobility were to strengthen and deepen the theoretical knowledge and develop the students’ practical skills in their study fields, to validate the ECVET instrument in organising mobility and to create learning units for the disciplines the students participated in. Another objective was to use the Europass mobility transparency instrument. It was very important that students – mobility participants – accompanying persons and school and project management received information on technical vocational education and the labour market in Latvia.

Mobility, lasting 14 days, took place in organisations in LV under the direct supervision of the accompanying persons from participating schools. Mobility was carried out in the following fields Mechanical Engineering, Machinist Setter, and for the study field Agricultural Machinery Repair. During the mobility, students were provided with a rich cultural and sports programme so that they had the opportunity to get to know the historical and cultural contexts and to make good use of their free time.

Specifically, 28 students from the Machine Setter field of study participated in the mobility. Of these, 20 - 2nd year students from the school in Velešín and 8 third year students from the school in Sezimovo Ústí; furthermore, 2 - 3rd year students from the study field of Mechanical Engineering from the school in Sezimovo Ústí. A total of 16 students from Agricultural Machinery Repair Engineer field from the Milevsko participated in the mobility, from those, 7 were third year students, 9 were 2nd year students and there were also 2 -3rd year students from the Mechanical Engineer field. The knowledge and skills acquired in the mobility were recognised as a compulsory part of the study for all students. All students received Europass Mobility which is used for subsequent employment on the labour market.

We also used the ECVET principles in the project, elaborated and signed the Memorandum of Understanding, we created one learning outcome unit for each discipline, namely the CNC Milling Machine Operator (HAAS); Work on CNC Machine with the support CAD/CAM; Basics of Heat Treatment of Metals and Tillage Machinery. We specified the mobility’s expected results, including the methods and criteria for their validation, in the learning outcome unit.

Both the process and the outcomes of the project were disseminated in the press, on the consortium members’ website, at the level of schools and employers, the SEP’s of the schools involved were also updated.
