Summary
The project Prevent Heat Loss: Windows was based on the needs and visions of Střední škola stavební Třebíč described in the European Internationalization Strategy 2017 - 2020, was created in accordance with school educational programmes and the Long-term Education and Development Plan of the Vysočina Region 2016.
Activities A1 and A4 fully corresponded with the set objectives of school development, activity A2 (ErasmusPro)and related A3 (APV)reflected on new facts and possibilities of the Call 2018 within Erasmus+ KA1 .
Activity A1 – Learners´ Mobility
The content of the activities was directly related to previous projects dealing with energy savings, giving the name to the whole project, as windows play an important role in energy savings and the economics of building operation. Units of learning outcomes Mounting the Window and Thermodiagnostics of Buildings, Thermal Bridges were created.
A total of 19 students completed two-week mobility at partner VET organizations in the United Kingdom (November 2018), Latvia (March - April 2019) and Lithuania (September - October 2019). Accompanying persons were present during the internships.
During the internship, students dealt with the condition and quality of the indoor microclimate, measured the value of CO2 concentration, assessed the geometric and dispositional arrangement of wall openings, measured heat transfer coefficients, assessed thermal bridges using a thermal imager, and developed measurement protocols. In the masonry workshops, they worked on the installation of windows and doors, took professional excursions to windows manufacturing companies.
One student completed a two-month internship in a company in Germany (October - November 2018), working in a carpentry workshop.
Activity A4 – Staff mobility – Staff training – a job shadowing/observation period abroad in a company or any other provider A total of 10 vocational teachers, trainers and school management representatives shadowed for a week in partner organizations in the United Kingdom, Latvia and Lithuania as part of staff professional development. The time of the A4 internships intentionally coincided with A1 ones, in order for the participants to interact in the work environment, for immediate feedback, to make the internships special, representative.
Activity A2 - ErasmusPro - long-term mobility of VET learners Activity A3 – Advance Planning Visit We took advantage of the new possibilities of the Call 2018 and, together with the German partner school, organized four-month internships in construction companies in the Lower Bavarian region for school graduates. We also used the opportunity to carry out planning visits to prepare the internships and eliminate risks. 13 apprentices completed internships: 5 bricklayers, 4 joiners, 2 carpenters, 1 electrician, 1 plumber. Five Units of Learning Outcomes were developed: Bricklaying, Plastering and Concrete Works, Manufacture of Furniture, Wooden Windows, Doors and Partitions, Making Carpentry Constructions, their Assembly and Repairs, Installation of Fixtures and Heating Systems, Installation and Connection of Electrical Wiring and Equipment.
One student did not complete the internship due to personal and health reasons. Her mobility was evaluated and recognized, classified as a short-term mobility in the company (A1).
Applying ECVET principles helped to organize traineeships according to clear rules. All stakeholders (a sending organization, a receiving organization, final companies and a participant) had their roles, defined requirements for training and its outputs.
According to the feedback and follow-up activities, we consider the project to be successful, even though it was not completed as a whole. The internships of activity A1 (8 participants) and A4 (3 participants) in Germany were cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Project activities, especially long-term mobility, became an example of inspiring practice, they were presented on the websites of NUV, DZS, a national agency, in the European Newsletter, at the VET fest Prague trade fair.
The impact of the project is the increasing number of people interested in international projects, both students and staff. The project team has been enlarged. A second foreign language has been introduced as a compulsory subject to support international activities of the school. The number of applicants to the school has increased as well.
